Since the day I was born,
I’d already done wrong
Before I drew my first breath, the sinner in me was strong.
Mom and Dad were trying to do right.
Tried to keep me in God’s sight.
Trying to bring me God’s love,
Trying to bring me to the light.
So after just a little while
they said, “God bless our child.”
Pour that holy water on his big, Irish head and tell us he’s sanctified.
‘Cuz I was born a sinner,
can’t escape my fate.
Better get down on my knees and pray before it’s much too late.
But then as I got older,
I grew a chip on my shoulder
Why do carry so much guilt and shame
that it feels like I’m under a boulder?
I said to the Lord above,
I don’t feel your love
All I see is greed and hate and
pushin’ always coming to shove.
So then I made up my mind,
It was time that I realized
I gotta see things my own way,
gotta see with ‘em my own eyes
‘Cuz I was born a sinner,
can’t escape my fate.
I’ll never get down on my knees and pray, it’s already much too late.
Dear Universe, whatever you are, sparkling be your stars. In vacuum doth rotate, in space doth locate, our pale blue dot named Earth. Give us more days to breathe the world’s air and forgive us not for we are not evil. Lead us into enlightenment and deliver us from ignorance. For wine is delicious, and food is nutritious, and love is for everyone everywhere. Can I get an “Amen”?
